Armando Fernandes

Major of Infantry

In March 2010, I went to Afghanistan on a mission. My job was to train all the Portuguese military from Kabul Division, with the doctrine from NATO.

We went to the Division everyday and we had to take all the equipment needed for combat, a pistol gun, an automatic rifle G-3, a helmet, and a bulletproof vest. It was a 40 minute drive, with no traffic.

After 1 or 2 months I started to feel some numbness in my  left little finger. And it started to disseminate. In August 2010 it already affected my ring finger and middle finger.

When I came to Portugal on holidays, in the end of August, I spoke to my friend Joel Fernandes about my physical condition and he started by correcting my back for half an hour, without touching my fingers. In the same day it seemed that my numbness was disappearing. Nevertheless, 2 days after that I aknowledged that I was fine.

I asked what had happened, because this situation seemed unbelievable. My condition was dued to my posture that had to be corrected and to the weight of the bulletproof vest (it weights around 30kg). Joel also prescribed some breathing exercises after the use of the vest.

It worked and I never felt anything like that again.

I vividly advise you to visit this physiotherapist and my friend, Joel Fernandes.
