With a Degree in Physiotherapy and Postgraduate Degrees in Sports Physiotherapy and Personal Training, I quickly directed my professional career to Sports Physiotherapy working in different sports such as Football (Portimonense Sporting Clube), Basketball (MVP Camps and Belenenses), Rhythmic Gymnastics (FIG Word Cup series), Athletics (Athletics Portuguese Federation), Karate (World Championship of Karate JSKA-Portugal) and Jiu-Jitsu (supporting athletes). During this time I had the chance to participate as a physiotherapist in several international sports events all over the world.
It was through these different experiences that I realized that no matter in which sport you participate, you still have to be able to perform basic movement patterns to ensure good musculoskeletal health. Human movement became my obsession, guiding my continuing education over the years.
Some of my additional training includes the following methodologies: Mulligan Concept, FMS (Functional Movement Screen), SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment), DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization), NKT (Neurokinetic Therapy) and AIM (Anatomy in Motion). In the last few years, I have had a number of opportunities to work as an assistant instructor in Portugal for both FMS and SFMA, and also to assist in several NKT courses in London.
I am a practical person who has developed a unique style of fusing the worlds of rehabilitation and exercise as a way to better rehabilitate and prepare both athletes and regular people for the necessities of their daily lives.
One of the most difficult and defining periods of my life was in 2013 when my mother was battling with terminal cancer. I wasn’t growing professionally and needed something as a positive focus. Your Best Move (YBM) was born in those emotional times and became that SOMETHING. It gave me the strength to help my family during that difficult period and grew little by little until it became my main occupation. It helped me evolve professionally by exploring and integrating the different methodologies that I had been studying over the years.
Besides being my job, YBM represents for me the ability to reinvent and surpass myself in the most difficult times.
Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
